Einsiedeln Christmas Market is the largest such event in Central Switzerland.
Einsiedeln Christmas market boasts a singular backdrop: Einsiedeln Monastery. Spread out before it are lovingly decorated stalls oozing charm and contributing to the Christmas atmosphere. The tall Christmas tree in the square is a particularly attractive feature.
Einsiedeln is a-buzz with activity during the market, including numerous Advent concerts and events. The perambulation of St. Nicholas is a long-standing tradition: the eve of the first Sunday of Advent witnesses the blessing of St. Nicholas and his sinister companions, the Schmutzlis, during evening prayers at 5.30 p.m. Children can hardly wait for St. Nicholas and his entourage to leave the abbey through the main doors and hand out little presents.
Sunday to Thursday, 11 a.m. - 7.30 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Attention: The Christmas market starts this year on November 29th at 5 p.m.
